Tyler is a well-recognized community leader with a passion for public affairs who has built his career on championing people to be successful and taking on challenging problems. After a successful track record in the private sector he pivoted into corporate communications and public affairs to provide strategic advice and counsel to a wide-range of clients across industries and sectors. In addition to supporting clients, he supports day to day operations including human resources and marketing at Coast Communications. He has a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C., with a specialization in strategic communications. He has extensive experience in public affairs, leading and overseeing campaigns for political candidates and has an extensive network in the business and political communities throughout B.C. and the country. He is trained in public engagement and consultation through the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2).
Prior to joining Coast Communications, he was the Principal at Tyler Allen Consulting Inc., a consulting practice he established in summer of 2020 to support small to medium-sized organizations. He provided a range of consulting services in the areas of human resources, operations and strategic planning. Tyler also consults to political organizations, politicians and potential candidates at all levels of government to provide strategic advice, campaign management and strategic communications including messaging, media relations, stakeholder relations and digital and web and other elements of owned and paid media campaigns.
Before consulting, Tyler spent over a decade at one of Canada’s Best Managed companies, A&W Canada, leading teams nationally as one of the youngest on the corporate strategy team. He held several management and leadership positions across the following divisions: human resources, purchasing, distribution and operations and personally led the organization’s environmental leadership strategy. He championed a number of bold environmental initiatives (the most prominent being the move to eliminate A&W’s use of plastic straws, the first national chain in North America to do so).
Tyler is an active community member and has served on several boards. Currently, he is the Vice-President for the Red Door Housing Society, a Director-at-Large for the Liberal Party of Canada’s B.C. Provincial Board and Vice-President for Richmond United FC. He has previously held board positions at: The Sharing Farm Society, Program Advisory Committee member for the Human Resource Management program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (he is also a graduate of the program), BC Liberal Party, MS Society of Canada – BC & Yukon Division, Richmond Multicultural Community Services Society, BC Human Resources Management Association, National Zero Waste Council, and StarlightBC.
Tyler lives in Richmond, B.C., with his wife, their four children and their energetic golden doodle, Lucy.
